When the car parks a long way from the consumer unit
Cable distance is the question that comes up most around Crediton. A barn conversion, a house set back behind a yard or parking beyond an outbuilding can put fifteen or twenty metres between the board and the charger position, sometimes more.
That is entirely workable, but it changes the job. Longer runs need appropriately sized cable, sensible containment and often a route that goes through or around a building rather than straight across open ground. A rough measurement at enquiry stage — even paced out — makes the first quote far more useful.
What the installation involves
A home charger is wired back to your consumer unit on its own protected circuit. The installer confirms the supply and earthing arrangements are suitable, agrees the cable route and charger position with you, fits and tests the unit, issues appropriate certification and shows you how to use it. Full detail is on our home EV charger installation page.
Access and parking in Crediton
Properties on the edge of town may involve gravel, grass or a yard between the house and the parking. Crossing that ground usually means ducting and groundwork, which is quoted separately, or a route that follows a boundary wall or outbuilding instead.
What it is likely to cost
Cost depends on the charger, the cable run and any electrical work needed. Straightforward installations may fall within a common price range, but the property and cable route matter. Our cost guide sets out what is included and what is quoted separately.
Choosing a charger
Where the parking is distant, a mounting post near the car is often better than a long charging lead. Untethered units suit this well, and load balancing is worth discussing if the property already has an electric shower, heat pump or workshop supply drawing on the same board.
Coverage around Crediton
We cover Crediton and the surrounding Mid Devon villages between the town and Exeter, including Newton St Cyres and Sandford where practical. Coverage depends on the installation location and contractor availability, so send your postcode and we’ll confirm. We are a service-area business and do not operate a public office in Crediton.
Arranging a quote
Send over a few details and, where useful, a couple of photos of the closed consumer unit and the proposed charger wall. That is often enough for us to understand the likely route before arranging the next step. You can also read more about our main service area on the Exeter EV charger installation page.
